Beck's rbi caps Blues comeback win

Erve Beck (pictured) was the hero as the Blues rallied in the 9th to beat the Athletics 4-3. Beck didn't even have to hit safely to provide the decisive run. He rolled a pitch to deep short that allowed Bob Wood to scamper home ahead of the tag. Philadelphia had taken the lead in the visitor's 9th on a 2-run triple by Lave Cross. The loss ended the Athletics modest 3-game winning streak.

Bill Hoffer allowed Jimmy McAleer to rest his bullpen, tossing a complete game

as the Cleveland Blues rallied impressively to win in dramatic style over

PHILADELPHIA ATHLETICS, 4 to 3.

Cleveland scored the decisive runs in a big bottom of the 9th inning scoring 3

runs using 3 hits. After an out was recorded, Candy Lachance keyed the rally

when he delivered a one-base hit. Bill Bradley stepped up to the plate and

he slapped a base-hit. Bob Wood then reached on an error bringing in a run.

Frank Scheibeck followed and he hit a single, and an error was also

committed, driving in one more runner. Erve Beck stepped into the box and

would hit into a fielders choice making Cleveland the winners and sending the

2,617 fans home happy. Cleveland managed 7 in their victory.

The winning pitcher was Hoffer(5-2) who allowed 3 runs for the game. Wiley

Piatt(2-7) suffered the loss. He surrendered 4 runs and 7 hits in 8 and 1/3

innings.

'I just wanted to give my team a chance to win.' said Hoffer, 'I got burned on

a couple of pitches. But we won the game, and that's all that matters.'
