Hayden continues rebirth with first inning triple
Jack Hayden (pictured), just recently moved into the three spot in the order, paid dividends with a 2-run triple in the Atheltics five run first inning. Hayden would score another run later in the game when he reached base on an error. Wiley Piatt finally got his first win of the season, but Bill Bernhard had to come on in relief late for the fatigued Piatt. Athletics are now 7-11 and have moved ahead of Washington and into sixth place in the American League.

The PHILADELPHIA ATHLETICS edged the Washington Senators at American League

Park by the score of 7 to 6.

PHILADELPHIA claimed the early lead in the first inning scoring 5 runners on 3

hits. The highlight belonged to Jack Hayden who deflated the spirits of the

home town crowd when he tripled plating two runs. Washington had a chance to

come back in the 9th but they came up short.

Wiley Piatt(1-4) went 7 and 2/3 innings allowing 6 runs for the victory. Bill

Bernhard got the save, his 2nd. Bill Carrick(2-3) ended up with the loss.

'I just wanted to give my team a chance to win.' said Piatt, 'I got burned on

a couple of pitches. But we won the game, and that's all that matters.'
