Murphy twirls 5-hitter in first game of doubleheader

Ed Murphy (pictured), threw a 5-hit shutout as the Cardinals won the first game of a doubleheader in Brooklyn. Wild Bill Donovan took his first loss of the season, and dropped to 5-1. Murphy was never in any serious trouble in any inning, and had an early 3-0 lead given to him. Cardinals scored four in the 9th to ice the game and send St. Louis to their 2nd straight win over the Superbas.

Ed Murphy threw a complete game shutout and catcher Art Nichols had 2 base

hits and 2 RBI as the St. Louis Cardinals defeated the BROOKLYN SUPERBAS by a

score of 7 to 0 at Washington Park.



Murphy(2-0) put on a good performance. He gave up just 5 hits and 2 walks in 9

innings seeing his ERA drop from 4.35 to 3.03. St. Louis managed 9 in their

victory.



Wild Bill Donovan(5-1) absorbed the loss. He pitched 9 innings giving up 9

hits and 1 walk.
