Kennedy quells late Orphan uprising

Brickyard Kennedy (pictured) was called on in the 9th inning of today's game, to close out the rallying Chicago club. Kennedy required only eight pitches to get the job done. Doc McJames (2-1) got the win, but was heavily fatigued in the 9th inning when Superbas skipper, Ned Hanlon made the call to the bullpen. Brooklyn, with today's win, is two games in front in the National League.

Center fielder Tom McCreery had 2 base hits and 2 RBI as the BROOKLYN SUPERBAS

defeated the Chicago Orphans by the score of 5 to 4 at Washington Park.

 

Doc McJames(2-1) pitched a solid game.  He went 8 innings allowing 8 hits and

5 walks seeing his ERA drop from 4.15 to 3.55.  Chicago had a chance in the

9th but they came up short.  

 

McJames was helped out by Brickyard Kennedy who recorded his 3rd save.  Jack

Taylor(2-5) was given the loss.  He allowed 9 hits and 4 walks in 8 innings.

 

'You have to give Chicago credit, they fought us tough to the end' Ned Hanlon

said.  'It could have gone either way, but I'm glad we pulled out the

victory.'
