
Lave Cross (pictured) ripped a 3-run home run in the Athletics 6th inning that helped propel rookie Eddie Plank to his first win. The Athletics have now won three straight in Washington. Cross is better known for his defensive prowess as he set records for fielding percentage in 1895 (.940, 7 points better than the previous record) and then in 1899 (.959, 12 points better than the previous record.

Eddie Plank pitched a complete game and third baseman Lave Cross went deep and
had 4 RBI at American League Park as the PHILADELPHIA ATHLETICS beat the
Washington Senators 5 to 3.
Cross had a big day against Washington. He doubled resulting in a run in the
2nd inning and rifled a three-run blast (his 1st of the season) in the 6th
inning. Washington threatened in the 9th but PHILADELPHIA was able to put
down the rally.
Plank(1-0) allowed 3 runs on the game. Dale Gear(0-3) was the losing pitcher.
He gave up just 5 runs and 6 hits in 9 innings.
