AL pitching matchups of 4-26-01

Jim Manning and the Washington Senators open their season in Philaelphia, taking on Connie Mack's Athletics. Bill Carrick starts for Washington after getting signed away from the New York National League club. Bill is hoping to improve on his 38-50 lifetime record. Chick Fraser will be his worthy opponent from Philly. Fraser was spirited away from the cross-town, NL rival Phillies. He was 15-9 with a 3.14 ERA.

Ned Garvin starts for Milwaukee as they try and even up their series with Detroit. Garvin pitched for the Chicago Orphans in 1900, and was 10-18, 2.41 ERA. Frank "Yip" Owen will be getting his first professional start for the Tigers.


Boston and Baltimore finally open their American League season. The Americans of Boston will send Win Kellum to the mound in their inaugural appearance. Kellum, a 25-year old from Waterford, Ontario will be making his professional debut. The 30-year old Joe "Iron Man" McGinnity pitches for the Orioles. Iron Man was an outstanding 28-8, with a 2.94 ERA for Brooklyn in 1900.
