Doc Newton did a great job and helped the Reds get their first win of the season. He never was in any serious trouble after the middle innings and cruised to a 3-1 win.

Doc Newton pitched a complete game and Sam Crawford had 3 base hits at West
Side Park as the Cincinnati Reds beat the Chicago Orphans by the count of 3
to 1.

Cincinnati took the lead off Long Tom Hughes in the first inning scoring one
runner. The pitchers took over after the 4th inning as neither team was able
to score again.

Newton(1-0) lasted until the end allowing 1 run for the win. Hughes(1-1) was
hit with the loss. He pitched 9 innings allowing 9 hits and 7 walks.
