Billy Milligan pitched 8 strong innings and Mike Powers had 2 base hits at
Columbia Park as the PHILADELPHIA ATHLETICS beat the Boston Americans by the
count of 5 to 2.

PHILADELPHIA had the game winning rally in the bottom of the 8th inning with 3
runs using 4 hits. Nap Lajoie kicked off the action when he slapped a
one-base hit. After an out was recorded, Lave Cross stepped up to the plate
and he laced a base-hit. After another out, Powers came to the plate and
banged out a single to load the bases. Fred Ketcham came up and he laced a
one-base hit knocking home two runners. Cy Young then tossed a pitch that
the catcher mis-handled scoring the final run of the inning. Boston was
out-hit by PHILADELPHIA, 13 hits to 6.

Milligan(1-0) got credit for the victory, pitching 8 innings and allowing 2
runs. Milligan got help from Bill Bernhard who earned his 1st save.
Young(0-2) was given the loss. He pitched 8 innings allowing 13 hits and 1
walk.
