After the first inning, Hughes was practically untouchable. Nichols didn't pitch poorly at all, but the Beaneater offense disappeared after the early run. Superbas run their record to 5-0

Jim Hughes delivered 9 solid innings as the Brooklyn Superbas beat the Boston
Beaneaters by a score of 3 to 1.

Brooklyn scored 2 runs in the bottom of the 2nd inning. That early scoring
held up. The pitchers took over after the 3rd inning as neither team was
able to score again.

The victory was credited to Hughes(1-0) who went the distance, allowing 1 run.
Kid Nichols(1-1) was charged with the loss. He allowed 3 runs and 7 hits in
8 innings.

'Hughes just dominated us' losing pitcher Nichols said. 'Hopefully we can get
to him the next time around'
