Pittsburg will send Deacon Phillippe to the mound as they try and improve their early season 1-1 record. Phillippe is making his first start of the season for the Pirates. He's coming off a fine 20-13 season with a 2.84 ERA. 1900 was only Deacon's second season in professional baseball.Jack Powell takes the hill for the Cardinals, and is hoping for better success than his first start of the season provided. Powell took the loss in the Cards opening day 3-2 decision against the Orphans of Chicago.
Cubs take their 2-1 record into Cincinnati to take on the 0-1 Reds. Jack Taylor will be making his 2nd start of the young 1901 season. In Taylor's first start, he went the distance in St. Louis, in a 3-2 Orphans win. He allowed 2 runs on only 7 hits in the victory. The 32-year old Phillips will be making his 1st start of the season for Cincinnati. He's coming off a disappointing 9-11 campaign in 1900, with a 4.28 ERA.
