Demontreville wears goat horns early but spurs comeback

Gene Demontreville (pictured) helped the visiting Superbas to an early 4-0 lead. Between allowing two singles at his position, he also committed 4 errors in the first two innings. But in the Beaneater's 3rd, he ripped a 2-run home run off Frank Kitson to cut the lead in half. This spurred the rest of the club and Boston would add five more over the next two innings. Superbas rallied late, but Boston hung on for their 4th win of the young season.

Fred Tenney had 3 base hits and Bill Dinneen was able to finish what he

started and was credited with a complete game at South End Grounds as the

Boston Beaneaters beat the BROOKLYN SUPERBAS 7 to 6.

Dinneen(2-1) earned his pay with a solid performance for Boston. He went 9

innings allowing 12 hits and 2 walks. BROOKLYN had a chance in the 9th but

they came up short.

Frank Kitson(0-2) took the loss. 'I always am most impressed when a pitcher

finds a way to win even without his best stuff,' Frank Selee said after the

game. 'Dinneen did not have command of his pitches most of the afternoon,

but he proved he really knew how to pitch!'
