Athletics sign journeyman catcher Murphy
Philadelphia has signed 34 year old journeyman catcher Morgan Murphy. Murphy last appeared with the Philadelphia NL club in the 1900 season. He hit .278 in limited playing time. The hope is that Murphy will provide some backup support to starter Mike Powers.
