Pirates waive outfielder Smith

Pittsburg waived 33-year old outfielder Elmer "Mike" Smith today. Smith had played sparingly for the Pirates thus far, getting 5 at bats, and never connecting on a base hit. Smith was in his 14th season of professional ball, and his future plans are not known at this time.

Reds waive catcher Mike Kahoe

Cincinnati has waived 27-year old catcher-first basemen Mike Kahoe. Kahoe had 2 hits (including one double) in 12 at bats for the Reds this season. This was his 4th season with the club, and was looking to improve on his .189 batting average from last season. With Heinie Peitz and Bill Bergen on the roster already, Kahoe's days seemed to have been numbered from the beginning.

Orioles sign free agent pitcher Jack Dunn

Jack Dunn, who was released by the NL Phillies only two weeks ago, was signed to a contract by the Baltimore Orioles. Dunn had pitched quite poorly in two previous starts for the Phillies, compiling an 0-2 record and a 9.90 ERA. Dunn is expected to pitch and possibly play the infield or outfield for the Orioles.
